Publishing my first book deserved a party. I probably should have spent that money on getting a publicist or something, but that can wait. I had to celebrate. And we celebrated hard.
We had lots of interactive booths where you could get your face painted, Tarot cards read, or an amazing seated massage. You could customize a Color Your Clit zine, write a love letter to yourself on a typewriter, and cover yourself in temporary tattoos. There was a DIY photobooth, live music, and tons of food.
We drew affirmation cards, wrote what we loved about ourselves on sticky notes, and wore fantastic balloon art creations which were passed out from April on stilts. Confetti, tinsel, and balloons covered all the surfaces of everything in the church venue we partied in.
So many people came out, and I can’t thank you enough for making me a part of your Thursday night. Your kind words and congratulatory high fives meant so much to me. It was so exciting to make a speech, do a reading of my book, and have people asking me to sign their copy.
I really can’t thank you all enough for coming and helping out.
Thank you to:
Everyone who came early to set up and stayed late to clean up
My dad for buying so much food and running the merch table
April for twisting balloons, walking on stilts, and taking over the balloon centerpieces so I could go pee
Charlotte for painting our faces, hands, and wearing such a radiant outfits
Meredith for relaxing everyone with her feel-good seated massages
Maura for taking gorgeous photos of the celebration
Gino for singing live music with his ukulele with songs such as “I’m The Shit”
Kristen for making a custom photobooth backdrop for us to pose in front of
My mom for doing Tarot and affirmation card readings
Joe for making taquitos, Leigh for cupcakes, Heidi for brownies, and everyone else who brought food
Joe for making a speech about me (checking something off my personal bucket list)
Charlotte, Leah, and Elizabeth for bringing hoops and making things fun
Ida Marie for hanging out at the love note station to help people navigate mail supplies
We Love Colors for donating free tights, leotards and shoe laces for free
Michele for bringing an extra typewriter
Cristen for calming me down before I went to the event and putting shinny stuff on my face
Steve and Matt for volunteering on behalf of the 2640 Space, running the sound system, and staying late to handpick up confetti
People who I hadn’t even met in person who took a leap of faith to come out to an event where they didn’t know what they were gonna get
I’m sure there are a million people I’m forgetting to personally thank, but please know I appreciate the fuck out of you. If you are interested in hiring any of these amazing people, just get in touch! You made my night so brilliant, and this book is officially real.
Have you gotten your copy yet? Do it! You’ll make me so happy!
You can check out the rest of the photos in the Facebook album, including some of the instant film from the photobooth!
