April 29th is International Dance Day! I danced for 11 years in all types of styles – hip hop, modern, lyrical, tap, jazz, ballet, and more. I also spent over a year training in burlesque. Dance is something that’s always been fun for me. Sometimes it’s served as a form of exercise, sometimes it’s shown me how to tap into my sexuality, but it’s always been fun.
Now that I’m not dancing three hours a day and memorizing 20 different dances worth of choreography, dance is done purely for joy. I dance in the aisles of the grocery store, when I get good news, and while I’m in the shower. I may not be able to lift my foot over my head anymore, but dancing is all about celebrating life– and International Dance Day is a great reminder for celebrating dance!
Thanks to Cristen who followed me around Baltimore, videotaping me dancing and generally just being silly. The video honestly gets more ridiculous as it goes on, so I hope you’ll stick around. I’m dancing to “Bang My Head” by David Guetta featuring Sia. I’ve been kind of obsessed with the song. It’s a big power up for me, and I really love some of the lyrics.
Though I feel light headed
I should have failed, and nailed the floor
Instead I rose above it all

Nice video, it put a smile on my face.
Aw thank you!
My favourite dance song (currently, because it’s always changing) is a Spanglish song called “El Mismo Sol” or “Under The Same Sun”. The lyrics talk about how, in the grand scheme of things, we are all connected, so let’s just dance without shaming anyone.
I love the concept of that song, I have to download it!! Thanks for the suggestion, Gabriella!
