How To Keep Your Resolutions In 2021
We’ve come to the end of the first month of the year and about now is the time when new year’s resolutions begin to wane. Dry January is long forgotten, running shoes lay forlorn under your bed and that business plan is still stuck on point one of five. If this is you, you might be feeling a bit bereft that you have given up already, but this is where you need to change your mindset. Instead of thinking of it as a new year’s resolution, think of it as a change of how you think. In the same way as you might use somewhere such as Harvest House of Cannabis to support you in areas of your life including mental health, physical, social, emotional and spiritual aspects, consider this mindset change a lifestyle choice. Here are some top ways you can keep your new year’s resolutions in 2021…
Celebrate each win
It doesn’t have to be something huge that you achieve, but you should celebrate each win. Trying to get fit? Instead of thinking “Oh no, I only went for one run this week!” Think, “I’m proud that I did that one run and I tried my best.” Or if you have a long to do list, be proud of yourself each time you tick something off. It is much better to think of your new year’s resolutions as small tasks and wins rather than one mammoth obstacle.
Make it realistic
You want your resolution to be something that you can actually stick to. If you pick something that is going to be extremely hard you will not realistically be able to stick to it all year. Choose something small that you can expand the goalposts to and actually achieve. This way you will be pleased when you achieve it and have something new to aim for.
Ask a friend or family member for support
If we have someone else doing a resolution with us, we are much more likely to stick to it. Whether you are looking to give up smoking, learn to play a musical instrument or eat healthily, you are much less likely to give up if someone else is in on it too. For example, you might cancel on going to the gym if it is just you and there is no one to discourage this, but if you know your friend is relying on you for company, you will just go. And no one ever regrets that gym session!
These are just a few simple ways that can help you to keep your new year’s resolutions in 2021. Remember the most important thing is that you do what makes you happy. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself and just do what you can. We are living in challenging times at the moment and any day that you are happy and positive should be considered a win and a pat on the back. What are your thoughts? Have you set any resolutions? I would love to hear from you.
