Self-Love Prompts is a series I started after creating a list of 50 self-love writing prompts. People like you select a prompt that speaks to them, work on it, and send me their response so I can share it with you guys!z

We’re continuing on this series with Judith. I’m excited to have her contributing to this series by answering the prompt, “What Will You Accomplish In The Next Five Years?” Let’s welcome her!

What Will You Accomplish In The Next Five Years?

Five Years. I’ve shied away from making New Year’s Resolutions or goals or whatever you want to call it because it seems like such a daunting task so five years seems ridiculous. What if I don’t make it? I remember my brother talking to me about his and when I asked him how he deals with the bad days, he simply said “It’s just a goal. It gives me an endpoint but the journey of getting there is what matters.”

That being said, I can make a list of what I want to accomplish in five years because it is more important that I spend my years striving towards a goal, rather than shying away and accepting complacency.

  1. Create a nursery for “Bug”. It’s what my husband and I have nicknamed our expecting little girl. I know I will accomplish this before July 2017 but I needed to write it down. I need to remind myself to be working towards creating a cozy space for that little one so that when she arrives into our lives, I feel ready. Well, ready in the sense that she has a place to sleep and the room is meant for her
  2. Return to pre-preggo body. Again, something I hope to accomplish within the next year but still something I don’t want to forget along the way. I love being active and the experience of strengthening my body.
  3. Event Planner Business. With the unexpected “news” of pregnancy, this dream of mine fell by the wayside. I may not be able to start it for years but I know what I am good at and that I am passionate about creating memories for people through events.
  4. Have our own home. My husband still has the potential for 4 more years of schooling and it feels like this is a pipedream. However, I want to accomplish it. I want to save our money and find a place to settle down. This can’t happen unless we start now and decide that it’s a priority for us and it is.
  5. Build a greenhouse. I am quite bad at growing anything…except Bug apparently. It doesn’t stop me from trying every year to grow something and I successfully grew sunflowers last year. Eventually, I want to be able to have my own vegetable garden and I know having my own greenhouse would really help in this. My post-secondary education taught me a lot of small woodworking so I know it’s something I could accomplish.

I’m already learning this year to not feel pressured from the fear and doubt that surround all of us. In college, I focused on self-care constantly since I knew my tendency to ignore my own needs and be a people-pleaser. Since graduating, I let myself fall into those bad habits again. I needed some more self-love and self-care in my life and although I have my neat little list now, I will accomplish giving myself the self-care that I need.
