Honk If You... Photo Series

I have fun creating photo series that I come back to every month with Maura. The idea is I do one each month, or at least twelve in each series to complete it, and each series gets its own hashtag. We’ve done a series where I filled avocado pits with colorful things, I dressed up as a unicorn and did a different domestic chore every month, I dressed up head to toe in a monochrome color and found a wall to match me… the ideas are endless, and it makes for fun content.

For this series, I stood on the side of the road holding a sign that said “Honk If You”… every month. The sign said something different each time, and I tried to dress up or have a prop that coincided with the sign. I went to a different part of Baltimore each time, and the reactions varied wildly depending on the type of sign I was holding, and what neighborhood I was in. It was really interesting! I got some pedestrians on foot to say, “Honk!”, I got cars, taxis, buses, motorcycles, and scooters to honk! To round out the series, I co-hosted an event called Guerrilla Love Signs with Kitty in October where a bunch of my friends stood on the corner downtown and held up positive signs to prompt cars to honk and spread positivity. It was a beautiful ending, but I don’t plan on stopping holding up signs on the side of the road any time soon. It’s way too fun!
