Last night I got to attend the world premiere of t Last night I got to attend the world premiere of two short films, with the combined attempt to educate the world about the Inner Harbor *and* Mr. Trash Wheel.

I was invited to walk the blue carpet because I got to be a part of Rivers Are Life’s newest documentary with the Baltimore Hons.

I had *no* idea the Waterfront Partnership Of Baltimore has had the objective for the past 10 years to make the Inner Harbor fishable and swimmable!

At the beginning of the evening, asking me if I would have considered swimming in the harbor next summer was an insane question. Now I can’t wait to!

The first documentary did a great job of summarizing how much work and data has gone into cleaning up the harbor. I knew it was getting cleaner, but I had no idea how or to what degree. I think not being able to see through it, due to the dark nature of an estuary provides an uncertainty.

But due to things like Mr. Trash Wheel, floating wet lands, planting wildlife, magnet fishing, volunteer work, and daily testing for microbe levels we now know the harbor is just as safe to swim in as any other place in the Chesapeake area!

I couldn’t believe it. If you can’t either, I recommend watching the documentary. The facts are undeniable. I’m really grateful for the longevity of the study and the consistency of the work.

I wasn’t expecting to have my mind changed or to be so inspired. You can join in next year to jump in the harbor for the first time in 2024!

To watch the documentary and find out how the harbor has become swimmable and fishable, go to waterfrontpartnership.org/harborsplash and click on “watch the full story”

🌈 Merriment Maker Of The Week: Jodi It was a f 🌈 Merriment Maker Of The Week: Jodi

It was a few days before Halloween, and I needed to find something 🛒 for my “What We Do In The Shadows” costume at a craft store.

As I walked in the store, I saw a 🏍️ motorcycle with a skeleton strapped to the seat. 💀 I laughed and squealed with delight. Whoever did this was someone I knew I had to meet.

I walked into the store and did a lap, 👀 looking for someone holding a helmet. 🪖 I didn’t see anyone. I even asked an employee, thinking maybe the helmet was in the back room. They had no idea what I was talking about.

So then I took another lap around the store. This time, I felt drawn to this man with a crew cut and 💜👔 purple checkered shirt holding a big spool of white fuzzy fabric. If I had to pick someone out of a line up to guess who drove a motorcycle on optics, it would NOT have been him, 😲 but everything inside of me said he was the Merriment Maker. 💗

I asked if he drove a motorcycle and he said yes. 👍 I told him how much I loved what he did and that I wanted to interview him. I waited for him to get his fabric cut ✂️ (for his Beaker Bride Of Frankenstein costume) and then we hung out in the parking lot after meeting another cool cat named Heather (who I’m actually hanging out with tomorrow!).

Jodi is an amazing guy, and I really hope once his work schedule changes I can cross paths with him again. 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

Ever thought about the word 'news' and its impact? Ever thought about the word 'news' and its impact? Join me on the Merriment Making Podcast as we unpack this! It's crazy how a simple term can distance us from real, heartfelt stories. Watch my latest podcast on good news as I delve deep into this topic.

“When we say “news”, we’ve allowed ourselves to dissociate from the intimacy of the acts happening to and by people like us. The word “news” removes humanity from our fear, horror, and grief.” - Mary England

🌟 As Merriment Makers, our goal is to create, s 🌟 As Merriment Makers, our goal is to create, share, and spread good news. But we can’t ignore the fact that a huge part of the reason for that is due to the overwhelm of not just bad, but *horrific* news.

🌍 And by news, let’s get real about what that means. We mean events like weather, climate change, and earthquakes. We mean pandemics, sickness, hunger, poverty, homelessness, and unclean water. And we mean *people*. We mean the actions of people *towards* other people. The negligence and lack of compassion.

💔 When we say “news,” we’ve allowed ourselves to dissociate from the intimacy of the acts happening to and by people like us. The word “news” removes humanity from our fear, horror, and grief.

🎙️ In this week’s podcast, I want to talk about how we got so inundated with bad news, what good news is, and how we can make more of it.
