by Uncustomary | May 12, 2014 | Snail Mail

There’s nothing like a mail social to reignite your love of mail. On Thursday, I joined a bunch of enthusiastic and creative ladies at the National Postal Museum for the monthly mail social. We used the generous supplies provided for us to write letters and make...

Correspondence Salon

by Uncustomary | Sep 26, 2013 | Snail Mail

As I’ve mentioned, on Sunday, I got to go to the Postal Museum in DC. The Inverted Jenny stamp was re-released, and it turned into a giant party. I’ve never seen so many people in that museum, but it makes sense! Not only could you get first day release...

Card Writing Party

by Uncustomary | Nov 29, 2012 | Snail Mail

I’m really glad that I got to attend my first letter writing social this year, plus another, and just this week a card writing party… just in time for the holidays. Melissa, of craftgasm, organized the event at the Mount Pleasant library in DC. I prepared...

I got to go to another letter writing social! This one was in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Becky, Bonnie Jeanne, Marguerite, and Anne were there. It was in a bookstore that used to be a movie theater.. the Midtown Scholar. They had set up four tables with a plethora of...

2016... I didn’t just make you a carousel. I made 2016...

I didn’t just make you a carousel. I made a full hour long podcast episode 🎤 about that year giving you context TO the carousel.

🩷 Published my first book
🧡 Flew internationally for the first time and spoke at NF symposium
💛 Rented a party bus for my birthday
💚 Did my first monochrome wall outfit series
💙 Started the Uncustomary Babes Facebook Group (which would turn into the Merriment Makers)
💜 Started my podcast
🩷 Started my YouTube channel
🧡 Survived a car accident and used my inheritance money to buy a used car (still have that car!)
💛 Started taking monthly photos with Maura and rented a studio
💚 Began working with We Love Colors
💙 Got down the rabbit hole of burner culture

This is the literal highlight reel. 🎙️ The podcast is aggressively honest.

I add it to my lessons and teachings. 👩🏻‍🏫 With analogies, stories, and humor. 🤓

The word “weird” was originally “wyrd”. The origi The word “weird” was originally “wyrd”.

The origin meant destiny and fate.

There were three goddesses that controlled destiny (Fates, Parcae, and Norns), and they were referred to as the three weird sisters.

When they started performing theater (like Macbeth), these three goddesses were portrayed in an odd and spooky way. They were witches.

What I take from this is:

1) Being weird is part of your mission on earth. We need it.

2) Being weird is paying homage to the witches and others who have been burned before us because while individuals are smart, people are primordial and we attack what we don’t understand.

We’re switching it up a bit and focusing on service instead of public art. 🫶

Can’t be with us in person but still want to help? 📬 Mail us your valentines by February 5th and we’ll use them! 💝

Positive Pulse is built around how people ACTUALLY Positive Pulse is built around how people ACTUALLY change. Slowly. 🐢 With humor, creativity, and a lot of honesty. 🍌🧑‍🎨⚖️

The tools here are based in science, psychology, and they’re PRACTICAL. 🧠🧬

They’re ALSO playful on purpose. 🛝 I use creativity, metaphor, and absurdity 🍭🦋🍆 because they make it safer to engage. Safer to feel. Safer to try something new without bracing for impact. 🥽🦺🛟

This works ESPECIALLY well for people who’ve felt out of place in other spaces. 😥 People who are sensitive, neurodivergent, creatively inclined, burned out, or quietly carrying a lot. 🌈♾️💟🧶🫠🎒

Most people don’t move through this in order. 🔀 They drop in. 🪂 They grab one thing. 🫳 They come back when they need to. 🫶
