Monday Mailings

by Uncustomary | May 12, 2014 | Snail Mail

There’s nothing like a mail social to reignite your love of mail. On Thursday, I joined a bunch of enthusiastic and creative ladies at the National Postal Museum for the monthly mail social. We used the generous supplies provided for us to write letters and make...

by Uncustomary | Dec 14, 2013 | Snail Mail

I mentioned that the Postal Museum in DC is hosting a snail mail social on the second Thursday of every month, and since it’s December, this month’s was holiday themed! Lots of people came, some with their own cards to decorate and some ready to make cards...

Correspondence Salon

by Uncustomary | Sep 26, 2013 | Snail Mail

As I’ve mentioned, on Sunday, I got to go to the Postal Museum in DC. The Inverted Jenny stamp was re-released, and it turned into a giant party. I’ve never seen so many people in that museum, but it makes sense! Not only could you get first day release...

Card Writing Party

by Uncustomary | Nov 29, 2012 | Snail Mail

I’m really glad that I got to attend my first letter writing social this year, plus another, and just this week a card writing party… just in time for the holidays. Melissa, of craftgasm, organized the event at the Mount Pleasant library in DC. I prepared...

by Uncustomary | Nov 5, 2012 | Snail Mail

I got to go to another letter writing social! This one was in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Becky, Bonnie Jeanne, Marguerite, and Anne were there. It was in a bookstore that used to be a movie theater.. the Midtown Scholar. They had set up four tables with a plethora of...

thing about luck that nobody says out loud: most o thing about luck that nobody says out loud: most of it isn’t luck. 🍀

a suspicious number of my “lucky moments” were actually me showing up somewhere i had no real reason to show up, talking to someone i almost didn’t talk to, or doing the thing i’d been postponing for three weeks.

the luck was there. i just finally walked into the room where it was waiting.
i’ve also won a statistically suspicious number of raffles in my life. 🎟️ my conclusion: i enter every single one. the jar at the coffee shop? obviously. the farmer’s market raffle? i’m in. most people don’t enter because they don’t think they’ll win. and then they tell me i’m “lucky.” 🙃

swipe for the full breakdown on conscious luck ➡️ what it actually is, how to practice it, and 10 unhinged (clinically unverified, deeply effective) ways to become a luckier person on purpose.

At Creative Mornings, they offered a bonus of free At Creative Mornings, they offered a bonus of free headshots with FOUR different photographers!

We got them back so fast, and I adore them. I posted four of them to Facebook and asked which one everyone preferred. There were votes for all of them, but the winner was the one in the yellow shirt where I’m looking straight at the camera.

However! I didn’t post the banana photos.

There were four photographers, all with different backgrounds. One was green, one was orange, one was the books in the library, and one person… had a table of veggies.

Oranges, broccoli, potatoes… and bananas.

You want your fourth headshot? You will need to select and hold your veggie of choice.

I heard people talking about how weird it was. The line for that one was the shortest. Someone asked, “I wonder who would hold the potato…”

I would have. But bananas are yellow, hilarious, and I’m literally dressed in a banana costume on my business card.

The photographer told me no one had held three bananas. I accepted the challenge.

About a day after I posted the poll for people to vote on which photo they preferred… I changed my profile picture to the one of my holding bananas with a caption that said “I played you! There was a fifth option! Option Banana!”

Bananas win.

I will tag the photographers in each photo. Thanks to them again and to Creative Mornings as a whole.
