In today’s busy world, it’s easy for healthy habits to slip down the priority list. Between work commitments, having a social life and spending time with your family, wellness routines often become something we “start again on Monday.” But the truth is, maintaining your wellbeing doesn’t need to be seen as a big deal and something you need to prioritise. Instead, the key is creating a routine that feels achievable, and enjoyable as that will make it a long term success.
If you find yourself in a bit of a slump at the moment, that’s ok. Try to be kind to yourself but by knowing this, you can quickly make the changes you need to get back on top of your wellness routines – there are so many ways after all. Start by prioritising sleep (this always makes a difference) and try to cut out any bad habits that have started to creep in. Make sure you are getting active and do not neglect your mental health – nothing is more important than your mental health!
To help you keep on top of your wellness routine, below we have put together a guide on six different things you can do. Keep on reading to learn more and in no time you will be feeling your best and back to your normal self.
Try to cut out any bad habit coming back in
When we stop looking after ourselves, this is when the bad habits we managed to stop in the past start to sneak back in. If you have started to smoke again, try to cut it out and try vaping as a way to cut down and stop. If you find yourself drinking more alcohol than you normally do, try to not have any in the house. The good news is you don’t have to change everything overnight. Start by identifying one or two habits that are making you feel less like yourself and focus on improving those first. Small changes are often far more sustainable than trying to completely overhaul your lifestyle all at once.
Make sure you are being active
One of the best things you can do for both your physical and mental wellbeing is to stay active. Exercise doesn’t have to mean intense gym sessions or training for a marathon either, instead it can be going out on a long walk or a hike with your friends at a slow pace. The recommendation is you exercise around two to three days a week, so make sure you are doing this as a way to help your wellness routine get back on track. Maybe go for a jog this weekend, or you could join a sports team if you wanted to try something new – try and get a friend to join you this way it’s easier to stay motivated.
Prioritise your mental health
Your mental health is something you should always be looking after, especially when you begin to feel like you’re not making the positive choices you normally would. Of course, everyone goes through highs and lows in life, and it’s completely normal to have periods where you feel less motivated, overwhelmed or simply not yourself. The important thing is recognising when you’re entering one of those lower periods so you can start making small changes to lift yourself back up again.
Ensure you are getting enough sleep
This may sound silly but sleep makes everything better. When we are sleep deprived and not managing to get our 7-9 hours of sleep each day, this is when everything starts to feel a lot more negative. But in actual fact, things aren’t as bad as they seem. Try to go to bed and wake up at similar times each day, reduce screen time before bed and create a calm environment that helps you properly switch off. Make sure you track how much sleep you are getting, to ensure you are hitting the recommended 7-9 hours. The best way to track your sleep is often through an app on your phone, but some people prefer to keep sleep diaries instead.

Drink plenty of water
How much water do you drink each day? Too many people fall far short of the recommended 3 litres each day. Staying hydrated plays a huge role in helping your body function properly and can improve everything from your energy levels to your skin and concentration. The best tip we can give is get a large bottle each day, like a one litre bottle and make sure you finish it three times – this way it’s easy to keep track of things. If you don’t have a large bottle, using an app on your phone to track can help as well (just like it can help you track your sleep and how many hours you are getting).
Look after your diet
Healthy eating is one of those things we all should be doing and it sounds easy to eat healthy, but in reality, it’s not as easy as a lot of people think – especially when unhealthy food often tastes so great. On a regular occurrence try to make sure you are eating five pieces of fruit and vegetable a day, alongside cutting out junk food and processed foods. Making small changes to your diet that are realistic for your lifestyle is going to make it a lot easier to keep on top of and you will find your wellness improves.
We hope our guide has given you some useful pointers on ways to keep on top of your wellness routine. As you can see, there are plenty of things you can do to keep on track.
