Today I just want to remind you to follow your gut, and to embrace your instincts. Most of the time, the things that we are compelled to do come from a place of desire and genuine interest. Maybe your interests have been a part of you since you were a child, or maybe it’s something you just recently discovered. Regardless, if you have an urge, I encourage you to try it out.

Don’t get me wrong. Something like an addiction is a bad idea to indulge. If you’ve worked hard to become a healthier version of yourself, and for you that means abstaining from something specific, I’m not suggesting you mess with that. I’m more so speaking about things that we want to do, but decide against because we’re afraid we might be perceived as strange, childish, or dumb.

It’s okay to pull over on the side of the road to pick wildflowers, wear four different patterns at once, or order something at a restaurant purely based on the name.

It’s okay to be excited about clouds painted on the sides of buildings, shop for accessories in the children’s section, and to change your mind three times before you decide what your favorite kind of cheese is. I encourage you to defy the age limitations they put on happy meals and playgrounds. Feel free to scream and cry in “average” situations, if you feel that emotion inside of you. If you wake up and feel like the best thing you could eat for breakfast is a pot pie, then make a fucking pot pie.

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”
― Bernard M. Baruch

You are unique, individual, and gorgeous. Living life isn’t nearly as beautiful as it could be when you’re worried about how everyone else looks at you.

The times that I feel the most like myself are when I really let my guard down, and a good place to start doing that is when you’re alone. I recommend taking yourself on dates. Try taking drives, going shopping, and eating out alone. You will learn about yourself in a life affirming way.

My wish for you, this week and always, is that you say yes to yourself.
