Why to always ask for forgiveness instead of permi Why to always ask for forgiveness instead of permission. 🙏

🚫 Never ask for permission in establishments because if you get someone doing their job, the employee will have to refer to the manager 👷‍♂️ and the manager will play by the code of conduct. 📋

And there’s no section for something like that. 🤷‍♀️ And they usually haven’t been given agency to make decisions with nuance like this, and at the end of the day they want to keep their job and a project they see as frivolous isn’t worth their paycheck 💸 if they are the ones who give the approval.

If you asked the CEO 🏦 if you could do it, they would see the bigger impact and likely approve it and maybe even hire you for collaboration. 👩‍💼

But the reason you’ll never get approval from someone in an official capacity is because they don’t want to be linked to it in case it backfires. 🧯

If you just DO it, then they ALWAYS have plausible deniability. 🚧

Asking for forgiveness instead of permission isn’t just for us, it’s for them. 🩷

Make your fun un-deflatable! 🌬️ A little whi Make your fun un-deflatable! 🌬️

A little while ago I was lucky enough to see a post that there was a pop up (or.. blow up) exhibit at the Pikesville Armory with artist made inflatables! 🐡

I had never even considered someone making their own inflatables! 🖼️ Isn’t that weird? Or maybe it’s not.

To me inflatables are fun things for props and pools. 🏊 And you buy them at Five Below or online. 🎈 But the truth is that anything that you can buy at a store can be made by an artist — and it’s definitely (well most LIKELY) going to be more interesting!

There were some really interesting ones and I’ll show them more later. 🎏 But I wanted to highlight for now.

It was an interactive one — 🕹️ and you KNOW I love interactive stuff!

When I walked in, I was sad because it looked like it was deflated. But things aren’t always what they seem... 🤔

Instead of disregarding it, 👣 I walked over and read the sign.

We were instructed to press the button on the ground. 🫷 Then the other. And the inflatable started to grow. 💨

And it didn’t just grow... it made sound. 🎼

It was called the Harmonicake. There were harmonicas and it hummed while it grew. 🪗 There were seats on the side. 🪑 And when you were done, you pressed the buttons to watch it deflate.

Thanks to @skymacklay for this incredible installation. 🎶 She’s a composer, sound artist, oboist, and this is NOT her first Harmonitree.

📍 The armory was also a great please to have an event. So much space! Looking forward to see what else they do there! @pikesville_armory promoted by the @mdartscouncil

Bubble Parade Flash Mob! 🫧 I guess I’m posti Bubble Parade Flash Mob! 🫧

I guess I’m posting about two different flash mobs today, hahah. 😹

Story time: 📜 The first flash mob I was ever a part of was in 2012 I think. It was something on my bucket list ✅ and I diligently researched how to be a part of one. 🧑‍💻 I even put a Google alert out for “flash mob” and my state!

Finally I got a hit ❣️ and the way it worked was they sent out a video of pre-made choreography 💃 you were to practice and learn. Then we showed up at a Nordstrom’s 🏬 with instructions for how and when to start dancing.

That’s what flash mobs were at the beginning. 👯 Dancing in large groups as a surprise.

But to me, now, and maybe to more — flash mobs I think are a much larger and flexible concept. 🤔

I think it’s about creating something — ANYTHING — unexpected that creates a positive surprise. 😲 A piece of good news. A fun outcome.

❎ I don’t think it requires choreography. ❎ I don’t think it needs a group of people. ☑️ I think it can even be ONE person.

Maybe a flash mob could be when I show up and dance alone in a grocery store aisle. 🏪

Maybe it’s when I place a tiny guerrilla art installation for someone see on their walk home from work. 🎨

Maybe you would disagree because the technical working definition is 🗨️ “a large public gathering at which people perform an unusual or seemingly random act and then disperse, typically organized by means of the internet or social media”. 🤷‍♀️

And while I am aware of that — I still think we can be open to expanding what creating good news is. 📰 How we can share kindness, fun, silliness, absurdity, and give people a GOOD story to take home with them. 🤩

If that feels good to you, take it. 😊 If it doesn’t, leave it.

This is a wonderful gif that the fabulous Randall created of me at the 9th Annual Bubble Parade 🫧 — which I have transitioned into the Bubble FLASH MOB. 🌈

MONSTER MASH FLASH MOB 👹 (to no one!) Personal MONSTER MASH FLASH MOB 👹 (to no one!)

Personal Story: 🏰 My favorite kinds of friends are the ones where I say do you wanna hang out they’re down for ANYTHING. 🆗

10 years ago, my love languages were gifts 🎁 + words of affirmation. 💝

Words of affirmation are still important to me, 👍 but quality time has taken a really high priority. 🫂

I think gifts were there before because it was demonstrating that people were thinking about me.. 💭 but now I want to make sure we’re spending time TOGETHER. ⌚

Anyway, I want to make sure I see the people I love as much as I can. 📅 As adults, that usually works out to maybe once a month. This last time I scheduled time with April I suggested we do Halloween-themed nonsense 🎃 and sent over some weird ideas for an evening together. 🤳

For the ideas, I referenced my own Halloween + Autumn Bucket Lists 🍂 (in my Etsy shop if you want ideas!) 🛒 + one of the things was to do the Monster Mash in public.

April was down. 🆗 When we showed up to the Rotunda in the evening on a Thursday with my boombox, 🎶 we both got dressed in essentially the exact same outfit:

💟 Fuzzy jacket, 💟 Monster hat, and 💟 claw gloves. (Great minds, right?) 🧠

I set up my camera, pressed play, + we danced. 📹

The area was pretty desolate. 👀 When people walked by no one really stopped. 😹 It was kind of silly in itself. That we were doing something absurd and it didn’t make people look twice.

🔙 If you happen to have been around since the genesis of my Merriment Making methods, you might remember one of my VERY first events was inviting everyone out to a Monster Mash Flash Mob but no one showed up! 🚷 So I did it alone.

Since then, I have also done this a second time and no one batted an eye then either. 😅

Maybe there’s something so beautiful and accepted about the Monster Mash (especially during Halloween time) that we are more likely to love and accept it. 👻

So the ultimate message is:

🧡 If you wanna be weird in public, maybe try this first! Haha.
💜 Get friends who say YES.
💚 Stay tuned for more shenanigans from this evening.

Have fun with editing; not sorry for all the effects.

Throwing stuff out of your car window isn’t alwa Throwing stuff out of your car window isn’t always a bad thing. 🚗

🪧 I saw three guys holding up signs on the side of the road with very little traffic.

They seemed pretty bored. 🥱

I made a U-turn ⤵️ and decided to throw them some bouncy balls out of the window. 🔴🟢🟡🟠🟣🔵

It doesn’t take much to make a difference. 🎁

Have fun. Be silly. 🤪
