Happy Halloween! I’m so excited to bring you a resource that I believe will be extremely useful if you are local to Maryland/Pennsylvania, and even if you’re not, you can virtually explore with me!

I’ve had a lot of people ask me for cool places to visit for Halloween, especially during the pandemic, and my answer is to skip bars and parties and go on a drive in search of amazing Halloween decorations!

All month long, I have been scouring the Greater Maryland area in search of the best decorations I could find. One of the best things about Halloween is that the people who love it really love it. Another thing is when you’re passionate about something, people are likely to share things with you.

That said, while a couple of these locations were shared with me, almost all of them were found from either happenstance of me driving around and pulling over on the side of the road to take pictures, even if it was raining, OR looking up old newspaper archives on Google and finding pictures of homes that had been decorated anywhere from two to six years ago. I had no way to know if these houses would still be decorated, but my intuition told me that they would be! I figured if they loved Halloween that much years ago, they at least love it that much now, and maybe even have more time and ideas this year!

I was right. Every. Single. Time. And guess what? Most of them were way better than the newspapers made them out to be. I followed my instincts and drove an hour to a potentially incorrect address or empty house, but every single time I found spoopy treasure.

Before we get into this, I want to go over a few things:

  1. As mentioned, I found these all through my own exploration, Googling, or a few friends who sent me specific addresses. You ALSO have these resources. Before you send a message to someone asking them to do the work for you, ask yourself if you’ve put in the work first! Have you Googled at the very least? Use your beautiful mind to be resourceful! Maybe you will come across an amazing article like this one that leads you to GOLD!!
  2. The nature of Halloween lends itself to be scary, due to the honoring of the deceased and the thing veil between the living and the dead. I am not going to do a content/trigger warning for every little thing in this post because it would be an immense list. I think we are all responsible for knowing that if we are scared of something (like I am with wax people and mannequins), that if I am entering a haunted house or something similar, that it’s possible they will be there. Scroll at your discretion! That said, at the very bottom, I saved a house that was very intense (and thorough!) with their use and theme of clowns. I know this is a very common phobia, so I want to warn you that after #11 to stop scrolling if you want to skip the clowns!
  3. That said, the video footage skips clowns! Enjoy that, and feel free to subscribe to my YouTube for more fun videos.

Enjoy!!

3. Hampden Glow In The Dark Dinosaur

Address: Falls Road, Baltimore, MD 21211

Notes: I can’t remember exactly what intersection this one was at, but if you’re driving south like you’re headed towards 36th street it will be on your right. It shouldn’t be more north than 41st.

4. Hampden Nightmare Before Christmas

Address: Roland Ave & 36th St, Baltimore, MD 21211

Notes: This is a Baltimore classic, and is basically spooky all year long!

5. Havre De Grace Tall Inflatables

Address: Level Rd & Bulle Rock Parkway, Havre De Grace, MD 21078

Notes: I loved stumbling on these and had to have the car pulled off into a not so great shoulder where there was another lady who lived closer than I do. I asked if this happened every year and she said, “Yes it gets better every year, but I always forget my camera, I’m so glad I have it this time!” You can see footage of this one in the video.

6. York Inflatables

Address: 1505 W 36th Street, Baltimore, MD 21211

Notes: So this house is really cool EXCEPT FOR THE FACT that there are Trump signs in the yard. This is a very conservative area and I realized that almost every place I’ve seen intense Halloween decorations has either had a Biden sign or nothing at all. It was still a lot of effort and fun, so the pictures don’t feature the political signage, I just wanted to warn you.

7. Forest Hill Guillotine

Address: 316 Cannery CT. Forrest Hill, MD 21050

Notes: This was basically the only one that I went to that looked totally different than what I was expecting based on the picture I saw from over four years ago online. They originally had a huge hand coming out of the lawn, but this was really cool. My favorite part was actually all the bats on wires floating in the air.

8. Stewartstown Mobile Home

Address: Chestnut Hill Rd & Springwood Road, York PA 17402

Notes: The placement on this was so perfect. We were actually on the way to a real haunted house, Hex House, and saw this lighting up their entire neighborhood. There was a lot of cool moving light components. If you’re in this area, you might as well also check out Hex House (read more here).

9. Wheaton One

Address: 11423 Catalina Terrace Silver Spring, MD 20902

Notes: This house was SO intense. They don’t mess around with scary and spooky. Cutesy? Not for them! There is some potentially triggering stuff here, especially if you go (like the projector on the house), so be wary. The people who live there were super cool, though. It started POURING as we got there, but there was no way I wasn’t getting out to look around. I saw someone putting out pumpkins, and when they saw us approaching, they went back inside and let us take all the pictures we wanted. As soon as we got back in the car they came back out to put out more pumpkins. Because it’s NEVER ENOUGH!!

Address: 1328 W 40th Street, Baltimore, MD 21211

Notes: I’m not a huge fan of clowns, and clearly this is creepy if you’re not down with the clown (I can’t help myself), but I can’t help but appreciate the sheer intensity and thoroughness of this house. It literally spreads across three rowhomes which means they had to get their neighbors’ permission on BOTH sides! These people have to be cool. Sending out a Babe Bat Signal to be friends! Speaking of friends, thanks to April for letting me know about this one!
