Last Fall, a group of us got together to make positive signs and hold them up on the side of the road (inspired by my Honk If You series), and we knew we just had to do it again… so we did! Last week we met up to get crafty and I was so happy to see that so many people who couldn’t actually come to the event to hold up signs still came to actually make signs for people on the event day. It was like a swap of kindness and creativity and very much appreciated!

Last year, Joe’s sign was inspired by and ‘It’s Always Sunny’ joke, “Can I offer you an egg in this trying time?” and he had an actual egg prop. That inspired Kitty to want to do the event around Easter next time and actually hand out eggs to people, which ended up being an amazing addition to the interactions and kindness!

We filled 140 colored eggs with compliments like these, and wrote #UncustomaryLove on the back of each one. No one has posted a picture of their egg yet, but here’s hoping!

Joe’s sign this year was advertising high fives, and it was really fun to yell, “Come get free eggs and high fives!” We ended up handing out about 100 of the eggs that day, which I say was a huge success. We had fun saying things like, “These are cage free, vegan, dairy free, gluten free eggs”. Which in hindsight also probably made the parents more likely to take the eggs because they didn’t want to take them if they were full of candy. Ha!

We learned a lot. Like this time we didn’t have a sign that specifically said “Honk if you” and our amount of car honk interactions definitely decreased. It seems like drivers definitely need a directive. But dancing around with colorful signs in costumes and masks can still get you honks, I promise.

We had some amazing interactions with very kind, unique people. One woman video taped each of us sharing what kindness means to us. We had a retired fireman say how much acts like this mean to him. A little girl ran up and hugged me. Dogs went crazy. It was just fun!

This is definitely something I’m going to continue doing in the future. So if you’re local, keep a look out for it! It’ll definitely happen at least once a year.

Thanks to Kelly, Felisha, Joe, Kitty, and Kitty’s daughter for making signs, to Laura, Joe, Hallie, Hallie’s son, and Zoe for holding up signs, to Kitty for helping with supplies and Joe for helping me carry stuff and edit the video.

I hope you’ll come out next time! I’ll provide the posters and supplies!
