It’s the last Thursday of the month, which means that us Get Messy folk are sharing our responses to the monthly prompt. September’s was all about adventure. We were encouraged to think about how we can live more adventurously, as well as experiment with mediums we’re not as comfortable with.

First, I tackled a new medium. Since I’ve gotten used to collaging and mixed media work, I decided to do something with sewing! I used embroidery floss to simply spell out the word “Adventure”. It wasn’t as hard as I thought, and I might try this technique again later!

The page on the left was inspired by a portion of a magazine advertisement. I love that this girl is writing “Let’s Go!” with her finger on a bus stop shelter. Who knows what the night has in store for her? I did some journaling after, which I will re-write here:

Let’s GO yell from rooftops, jump in lakes, dance all night, and share our milkshakes. Let’s GO outside, and not look back, write a love note, and get lost off track. Let’s GO swim naked till the greets us again, except this time we’re kissing. I’ll tell you a story, you’ll hold my hand, I’ll warn you about me, and you won’t understand.

And the last page is just a reminder to myself. In a literal fashion, I will always say yes to sequins. Sometimes I buy clothes I otherwise wouldn’t just because it’s sparkly. But I want to make sure that I say no to “beige” in a metaphorical way throughout my life. I want to challenge myself, make time for fun, and say yes to adventure.
