I’m thrilled to be hopping on the beautiful bandwagon that is Get Messy:

Get Messy is an art journal challenge whereย a gang of crafty vixensย are sharing art journal pages we have created to practise our skills and push past our creativeย limitsย withย hopes to inspire. We share our pages without restraint every week, and once a month we create around aย prompt. Goย check outย these crazy talented ladiesย who each have a unique perspective and style.ย We will be sharing our work around social media soย follow theย hashtag #getmessyartjournal.

I’ve been continually inspired by the pages these lovely ladies have been creating, and I hope you guys are ready for some consistent peaks into what I’m making on paper.

Remember when I dance under falling confetti and took it home despite a security guard’s wishes? I immortalized some of it here.

Aesthetically, I’m very drawn to pieces of art that utilize a lot of white space. But for some reason, when I’m creating, I’m very inclined to cover up the entire area. I end up not enjoying the end result as much, but the process is way more fun for me. If I think about it, it makes sense. My mind is always cluttered with color and thoughts, andย myย pages end up reflectingย that.

Throughout the process of Get Messy prompts, I’m going to challenge myself to hold back with covering corner to corner, and let my concepts and words speak more for themselves.

The text on the left page below is from Michelle, who made me a creative kit full of prompts and activities to do whenever I’m sad. The first one that I “unlocked” required me to listen to “A Praise Chorus” by Jimmy Eat World, and the excerpt below explains why that song reminds her of me. It meant so much because of how powerful that song has been to me for over a decade. For someone else to associate those words and sounds with me made me feel infinite.

As much as art journaling is a place to practice art, I also want it to be a place for documenting the beauty in life. The article “Don’t Date A Girl Who Travels” really resonated with me, so I just printed it out and tucked it in my journal. It’s important for me to remember these words.
