My friend and fellow Uncustomary Babe, Kitty, approached me and asked if we could make an event happen where we hold up positive signs on the side of the street (similar to my Honk Series on Instagram), and I said hell yes!
We scheduled a date for people to come to my house to make signs and we had a blast getting crafty and brainstorming positive phrases that could be used to inspire and boost the mood of the passersby of a busy street corner in Baltimore. We even had a friend who came to make a sign who couldn’t come to the actual event (thanks Felisha!).
The whole idea was just guerrilla style spreading positivity. Fun for the purpose of fun. And I definitely think it worked! People walking by were definitely interested in what we were doing. Moms pushing strollers, businessmen in suits, and people out for their daily jog were all stopping to take note of what we were doing, and I like to think it added a little oomph to their day. We got honks from cars, buses, taxis, and even cops! We got people to actually shout the word honk with their mouths and ding it on their bikes and scooters. Actually, I think the only thing we didn’t get was a motorcycle beep!
One of my favorite things to be able to do is to give people a story to take with them. I hope a bunch of people went home that night and when they were asked about their day they said, “Oh! I saw a panda holding up a sign on the side of the road!” That would be great.
If anyone saw us out there or took any pictures of/with us, please share them with me! I’d love to see them.
We would love to offer you an egg in this trying time…
Thanks to Kitty for helping me organize, and Joe, Charlotte, Laura, Kate, and Felisha for participating and making this magic happen.
And please, always honk for pandas.
Enjoy this little bit of video footage I put together of us being silly on the corner of Pratt and Lombard downtown. We love you all!
