Sometimes we describe people as “eccentric” when we don’t know what else to say. Even if you’re calling me “eccentric” to mask the fact that you think I’m crazy, I take it as a compliment. I would much rather be thought of as strange or indescribable than something mundane or forgettable.

I’m here to not only tell you that it’s okay to be eccentric, but to encourage you to liveย an eccentric life.
Here are five examples I thought of.

1) Don’t be inhibited by regular standards, including size.
Ride around on a small bike with a giant banana.

If you can’t get enough of something, find a giant version of it. Or you could find a miniature version to carry with you always! Just because that bike or playground says “12 and under” doesn’t mean you can’t play.

2) Use the charge and majesty of the earth to power your life (and appliances).
Plug your curling iron into the ocean to make your hair fancy.

Do you believe that balloons create energy? Then let it be so! Use nature to your advantage, it’s gorgeous out there! Don’t forget that your reality is yours to shape and mold as you please.

3) Involve yourself in new situations, explore, and use the magic I know you have inside you.
Spread your magic onto traffic.

Use your metaphorical (or literal) magic wand to cast blessings, good wishes, and glitter. Climb up higher on fences, peek around corners, and feel the wonder inside your life.

4) Don’t be afraid to take on a new identity.
Put a unicorn mask on your face and bury your body in the sand.

Embrace costumes and changes. Accept challenges. Try what it’s like to be a unicorn, and if you prefer it, stay that way.

5) Adorn yourself with all thingsย shiny, tacky, and seemingly irrelevant.
Wear four layers of bottoms, a metallic shirt, and mouse ears. Carry a rainbow ribbon down the street.

Maybe what you’re wearing doesn’t match or fit regular aesthetic standards. It doesn’t matter. If you don’t want to wear pants, don’t. If you want to wear seven necklacesย and a tiara, do!

Basically, do what you want, even if it’s bizarre to someone else.

Do you have any suggestions for eccentric living?
