5 Ways to Practice Self Love and Be Good to Yourself

Practicing self love and being good to yourself are necessary steps that you need to take daily to maintain a state of equanimity in body and mind. Many times, people make the mistake of putting all of their energy into taking care of everyone around them, at the expense of their own health and wellbeing. If you find yourself struggling to take care of yourself because you’re always working hard on making your boss happy, your spouse happy, and your kids happy, it’s time to take a step back.

1. Find Your Spirituality

Believe it or not, spending time reading scripture or being in quiet meditation and/or prayer in a serene environment could be just what you need to clear you mind and find answers to the questions that you may be struggling with. You can learn more about your spirituality at Deily, and you can participate in masses or worship a higher power in your own personal way. Whether you prefer to meditate with a pair of mala beads or pray the Rosary, this is your time to be uninterrupted and listen to your heart while learning teachings that promote self-care.

2. Meditate

Speaking of meditation, you can certainly spend a few minutes in quiet meditation every day, regardless of what religion/spirituality you identify with. Begin by sitting in a comfortable position with your spine as straight as possible. Close your eyes and start focusing on the breath moving into and out of your nose. Slow your breathing while making it deeper. You can count your inhale for about four seconds and then exhale for the same amount of time. This will help soothe your nervous system and get your mind to stop thinking. Sit quietly in meditation for even just five minutes to be good to yourself and reduce your stress level.

3. Nourish Your Body With The Right Foods

What you eat has a profound effect upon your overall health, even right down to your mood. Therefore, focus on giving your body the nourishment that it needs every day to feel energized and strong. This means limiting caffeinated and alcoholic beverages, as well as processed foods, and sticking with pure water and whole foods, like fruits, vegetables, grains, etc.

4. Get Enough Rest

Whether you need to take a short nap during the day or you want to get to bed earlier at night so that you can get more hours of sleep, make sure that you get enough rest. This could even mean simply lying on the floor with your feet up for a few minutes.

5. Exercise

Find a physical activity that you really enjoy, whether it is a yoga practice, a jog through the park, or lifting weights at the gym. Create a routine that you can stick to, and let everyone know that you will be working out for at least an hour several days out of the week to stay fit.

With the five tips above, you’ll be able to treat your body, mind, and spirit well, and you’ll feel the difference.
